Workplace delegates

New rights and protections have been introduced for workplace delegates (being employees who are appointed to represent members of an organisation in the workplace).

The changes grant delegates the right to:

·         represent the industrial interests of current and potential members of the employee organisation, including in disputes with their employer;

·         communicate reasonably with members and potential members about their industrial interests; and

·         have reasonable access to the workplace and its facilities to represent those interests.

Delegates employed by non-small businesses are also entitled to reasonable paid time during regular working hours for workplace delegate training.
